I keep seeing people skip the primer step on painted kitchen cabinets

It matters because the paint peels or chips in under a year, especially on the doors. I learned this after my first repaint job failed and a painter friend told me to always use a bonding primer. What's your go-to primer for a project like that?

Ever think about the type of paint that was on there before? If someone used a cheap latex over an old oil-based paint without primer, it's gonna fail fast. I always scrub with TSP first, then use a shellac-based primer like BIN. That stuff sticks to anything, even laminate.

Yeah my buddy learned that the hard way, his whole kitchen peeled because he skipped the primer step @danielb43. Shellac is the only thing that held.

That's the thing, skipping steps to save time now always costs more later. You see it with paint, home repairs, even relationships.
