Laminate flooring won me over with a simple weekend project

I always saw laminate as the budget option that wouldn't last. It seemed too plastic and easy to damage. That changed when I redid my spare room on a tight budget. The panels clicked together in a few hours, no mess or special tools. A year later, it still looks new with all the foot traffic. So much for my old beliefs about quality. Sometimes the easy way is the right way for DIY.

Always thought laminate looked cheap and flimsy. Tried it in my own place and was totally wrong, it's held up way better than I expected.

But water ruins it so fast. One spill and the edges swell up, and it never looks right again. It also chips way easier than real wood when you drop something heavy, and it always sounds hollow when you walk on it. I had to replace mine after just a couple years.
