My neighbor said my deck stain job looked like a toddler did it with a mop
He pointed out my brush strokes were way too heavy and I was leaving puddles in the grain. I switched to a foam roller for the next coat and the difference was night and day. Anyone have a better method for applying outdoor stain on pressure-treated wood?

Ever see a guy try to stain his fence with a garden sprayer? My buddy did that and it looked like a tie-dye shirt. He had to scrub it all off and start over with a simple pad applicator.

Garden sprayers can work fine if you know what you're doing. It's all about thinning the stain right and keeping a steady hand. Your buddy probably went too heavy or didn't mix it. A little blotchy look might even out after it dries, no need to panic and scrub everything.

Pressure washers are the real problem, they chew up the wood grain and make any stain job look awful later.
