Unpopular opinion: Reclaimed wood projects often create more waste than they save.

Measure twice, buy once, or you're just moving trash around.

Honestly, I read an article about how much fuel gets burned hauling that "free" barn wood around. The environmental cost of transport can undo any good from reusing it. You're right that it often just moves the problem.

Watched my friend drive three states over for "free" reclaimed oak. Burned a full tank of gas in his pickup, paid two toll bridges, then spent another fifty bucks on straps and tarp. When he did the math later, the fuel alone cost more than buying local pine new. Kind of kills the good feeling when you burn that much gas just to save some wood.

About that article on fuel for hauling wood, reusing it still avoids the big energy hit from making new lumber. So even with transport, it can be better for the planet.
