That cheap shut-off valve on a toilet hose cost me $300 in water damage last weekend

Had a tenant call me Sunday morning saying water was seeping through their bathroom floor, and I found the little plastic valve had cracked clean in half at 2AM. I replaced it myself with a brass one for $12, but now I'm wondering how many more of those plastic time bombs I have in my other units. Has anyone else had these things fail on them out of nowhere?

Hey @nina_johnson86, but a buddy of mine had a plastic one snap on him at 3am, woke up to ankle-deep water.

Oh, brass ones can crack too actually, just takes longer.

Jumped right into that same mess myself last year. I had one of those plastic shut-offs on a toilet in my own house, not even a rental, and it decided to let go while I was on vacation. Came home to find my bathroom floor had turned into a mini swimming pool and my downstairs neighbor's ceiling was dripping like a leaky faucet. Spent about $400 on a plumber and drywall repair before I learned my lesson. Now I just swap those cheap plastic valves out for brass ones before they get a chance to surprise me.
