Just realized I spent $300 on the wrong UPS because I didn't check the plug type
Bought a rackmount UPS off Facebook Marketplace without checking if it had a 5-20P plug instead of a standard 5-15P, and now I'm stuck rewiring my whole circuit or spending another $50 on an adapter.

Rewiring my whole circuit" - man that hits home. I swear half the stuff I buy lately has some weird hidden catch like that. It's like nothing is just straightforward anymore. You think you're getting a deal and then bam, you need a special adapter or some extra part you didn't know existed. This happens to me all the time with basic stuff too, not just electronics. It's like everything is designed to make you do one more trip to the store or spend another twenty bucks. I've started just assuming any used deal has a catch like this built in.

Totally feeling this. Last week I grabbed a used air compressor for a steal and didn't realize until I got it home that it needed a totally different kind of plug and a special pressure regulator that cost almost as much as the compressor itself.

@nancy524 you're basically describing my entire relationship with Facebook Marketplace. Every deal comes with a hidden second price tag. The other day I bought a table saw that was "almost new" and guess what, it used a blade size nobody sells at Home Depot. Now I'm either ordering online or buying a whole new arbor assembly. It's like these people sell stuff just to pass their problems onto you. Are we all just playing hot potato with broken junk at this point?
