Just realized that old-timer was right about buying a UPS before I even bought my server
Back in 2019 a guy on this very forum told me to spend $150 on a used APC UPS before I even ordered my first rackmount chassis. I ignored him and fried a drive during a brownout 3 months later. Has anyone else had a simple piece of advice save them from a stupid expensive mistake?

Back in 2019 a guy on this very forum told me to spend $150" - seriously? A used UPS for $150? That's a steal. I just checked and a half decent new one runs close to $400 now. I fried a power supply once during a storm, learned my lesson the hard way too. Now I keep a spare on a shelf just in case.

You used to be in the "it'll never happen to me" camp too, @hollyg59? lol same here. I always thought a cheap surge protector was good enough until my PC took a hit during a brownout and the PSU started smoking. Now I've got a refurbished APC unit I found on eBay for like $80, best money I ever spent honestly. Definitely changes your tune once you've actually lost hardware over it.
