Swapped my 30 min car commute for the 9 bus and got a whole different city
I used to drive from Oliver to Whyte Ave every day for work, roughly 25 minutes in traffic. Last month I switched to the number 9 bus and honestly, the extra 15 minutes is worth it because I actually see the neighborhoods instead of just flicking through red lights. The bus driver even waited for a regular who always runs from the Starbucks on 109th, which never happens in a car. Anyone else here ditch their vehicle for transit and find a bunch of little street details they never noticed before?
Bus rider for three weeks now and the other day I saw a guy walking his pet turtle on a leash near the Legislature. Never saw that in five years of driving. Plus the bus has this one unspoken rule where everyone pretends not to notice the guy who eats a full breakfast sandwich at 7am, and honestly that's way more entertainment than any podcast I used to listen to. The driver also gave a kid a high five for doing his homework on the bus, which is weirdly wholesome for a Tuesday. Car me would've just been raging at the crosswalk signal for the 47th time.
