A client's comment made me rethink my bench setup
A regular customer told me my work area looked 'like a bomb went off' and that it made him nervous about leaving his $800 laptop. He said a clean bench shows you care about the details. I used to think a messy bench meant I was busy and working hard. After that, I spent a Saturday reorganizing, adding a magnetic strip for tools and a specific tray for screws from each device. My repair time actually dropped by about 15% because I'm not hunting for things. Has a simple piece of feedback ever made you change a basic shop habit?

Read a blog post once from a mechanic who said a clean toolbox is a fast toolbox. He argued that time spent looking for a 10mm socket is time not spent turning a wrench. Your story about the repair time dropping totally proves that point. It's not just about looking good for the client, it makes the actual work flow better. Have you found any other small changes that sped things up after you cleaned up?

That mechanic's blog post sounds spot on. After we organized the shop, we started color coding our most used tools with bright tape. Saved maybe 15 minutes a day just from grabbing the right size without double checking. What's one tool you find yourself searching for the most often?
