A customer in Tacoma taught me a great trick for finding tiny screws

This older guy brought in a vintage radio last year and watched me struggle to find a dropped screw on my dark bench mat. He said, 'Kid, use a magnet wrapped in a plastic bag, just sweep it slowly.' I tried it and found the screw in about 10 seconds flat. It's now my go-to method for small metal parts. What other simple tricks do you all use for keeping track of hardware?

Oh, that's a smart one! I keep a small, bright LED flashlight on the bench and shine it at a low angle across the work surface. It makes even the tiniest screws cast long shadows, so they pop right out from the clutter. Works like a charm on carpet, too.

But doesn't that just make more shadows to look through?
