Got stuck between a full controller swap or a board repair on a 2005 Dover in a Portland office building.

The building manager wanted the whole thing replaced for $8,500, but I found a burnt resistor on the main logic board. I chose to try the repair, cost them under $500, and it's been running smooth for three months now. Anyone else faced this pressure to replace when a fix might do?

Honestly, I would have been the manager pushing for the full swap a few years ago. It just seemed like the safer, more permanent bet. But seeing a simple, cheap fix actually work and last? That flips the whole script. Now it just looks like lazy or upselling to not even check the board first. Good on you for saving them that insane amount of cash.

Saw a tech blog call that the "replace, don't repair" mindset.

@valh32 called it perfect, that "replace, don't repair" mindset is exactly what I dealt with too when a new part fixed a six-year-old board.
