I actually prefer working on old rotary selector switches over digital panels
I've been fixing elevators for a long time, and I still like the old rotary switches better than the new digital ones. You could touch them and hear the clicks, which helped you figure out problems fast. Now, if a screen goes blank, you're stuck until you reboot the whole thing. I once had a job where the switch was just dirty, and a quick clean got it running again. A lot of mechanics think the new stuff is easier, but I don't buy it. To me, the old ways were just more solid, lol.

Cleaned a 1978 selector, fired right up.

But what about when the parts are too far gone? I've seen selectors where the contacts were so corroded that cleaning did nothing. Sometimes you need new springs or even a whole rebuild. Isn't it naive to think every old piece just needs a wipe down?

That's awesome it fired right up, @ramirez.logan. I read a whole thing about how the grease in those old selectors turns into glue over the decades. It's crazy how often the fix is just a good clean. Like my buddy had a similar deal with an old car radio from the 80s. He took it apart, cleaned off all the gunk, and it worked perfect. Makes you wonder how much stuff gets tossed that just needs a simple fix.
