I finally spoke up about skipping a step in the maintenance routine.

It was tough, but explaining the risk helped everyone see why we couldn't cut corners.

Man, I've been there. I mean, it's so tempting to skip steps when you're in a rush, but you're right about explaining the risk. I always found that showing what could go wrong, like with pictures or examples, really drives the point home. Idk, maybe it's just me but once people see the actual damage, they get why it matters. Plus, it builds trust because they know you're not just being picky, you're trying to prevent a bigger issue later.

Show them a photo of what happens when corners get cut.

Totally agree about showing the result. My buddy tried to patch a roof leak himself but didn't seal the underlayment first, just slapped shingles over wet wood. Three months later, his whole dining room ceiling collapsed after a heavy rain. He still has the photos, and now he never skips prep work.
