Can we talk about the shame of asking your parents for rent money at 30?

My car repair in March cost $1,200, wiping out my emergency fund, and I had to call my mom for help with April's rent. Has anyone else had to do this and how did you get past feeling like a failure?

What if the shame comes from how we define being an adult? In my experience, being grown is about handling problems, not just paying for everything alone. Calling for help to solve a real crisis is actually a pretty mature move.

Right, because real adults apparently solve problems by just staring at them until they magically fix themselves.

My emergency fund got wiped out last year too when my dog needed a $900 surgery. I had to ask my dad for help with my mortgage, and I felt awful for weeks. What finally helped was realizing, like eva908 said, that being an adult is about solving problems. I made a real plan to pay him back, even if it was just $50 a month, and that action made me feel like I was handling it instead of just taking. The shame faded once I was actively fixing the situation.
