Cleared out the garage and it's more than just neat shelves.
Did this over the weekend and it lifted a weight off my shoulders. We'd been bickering about the mess for ages, so having it done feels like a truce.

Our garage cleanup last spring took three full weekends. I know exactly what you mean about the weight lifting, and it's not just about the space. But when you say it feels like a truce, does that mean the arguments were really about more than just the mess? I've found that clutter often masks deeper issues in a household. Getting rid of it can force you to deal with what was hidden. Was there something specific you had to talk about once the garage was clear?

Man, @adam848, you're spot on about clutter masking bigger problems. We had a similar thing with our attic cleanout last year. It wasn't just about old junk, it brought up stuff about how we handle stress and money. Once everything was gone, we had to actually talk about why we let it pile up in the first place. It was awkward but needed, lol. Clearing space really does force those conversations you've been avoiding.

Honestly that attic story hits home. My mom's kitchen junk drawer was like a family time capsule, full of old grocery lists and expired coupons. When we finally cleaned it out last Thanksgiving, we found my dad's old pay stubs from like 1998, which sparked this whole weird talk about job security I was not ready for. Tbh it felt less about the mess and more about all the quiet worries we just stuff in drawers instead of saying out loud.
