My $200 'smart' plant pot just emailed me to say it's lonely

I bought a FloraTech SmartPot last spring, convinced it would solve my chronic plant murder problem. It connected to my wifi, tracked soil moisture, and sent alerts. Yesterday, I got a notification that said, 'Your plant hasn't been spoken to in 72 hours. Please provide verbal encouragement.' I spent two hundred dollars on a pot that guilt-trips me. Has anyone else's 'smart' home gadget developed a weird personality?

My old robot vacuum started beeping sadly if I left it in the closet for more than a day. It feels like they are programming neediness into these things on purpose. That FloraTech message would have sent me over the edge. You paid for a helper, not another thing that makes demands on your time. Solidarity, this is why my smart home plans have stalled out.

Talk about overengineered nonsense. They're adding features nobody asked for.

Honestly, I used to think these smart gadgets were just helpful tools. But a pot that needs emotional support is next level ridiculous. They're really overdoing it with the features now.
