My aunt's unpaid loan showed me why mixing family and cash fails

From my view, the idea that you should always bail out relatives is flawed. I gave my aunt money for a medical bill, and she avoided paying it back for years. It created quiet resentment during family gatherings that nobody would address. Now I believe keeping finances separate from kinship prevents heartache, even if others call it cold. Take this with a grain of salt, but that error taught me a lot.

Learned that lesson after loaning a cousin money for what he called a "can't miss" used car deal. The car missed plenty, mostly the payments. I felt like a walking ATM with family programming for years.

Seen this happen so many times. People treat family like a free bank with no due dates. Turns a nice thing into something that just kills the relationship.
