Vent: Caught my landlord going through my apartment while I was at work

Installed a cheap camera in my bedroom last month. Just a $25 Wyze cam. Came home and saw my landlord on the footage. He opened my dresser drawers. Looked through my bathroom cabinet. I was shocked. Never had this happen before. What do you do when your rental agreement gave them 24 hour notice but they didn't actually follow it?

Held my breath reading that part about him opening your dresser drawers. That's a whole different level of creepy, man. I can't even imagine coming home and watching some guy going through my underwear drawer like he owns the place. Good call on the Wyze cam though, for 25 bucks that thing already paid for itself.

Wait, did you check if he was wearing shoes inside your place too?

Did you have a lawyer look at your lease yet? I had the exact same thing happen with my old landlord in 2021. I found him going through my nightstand on a $30 camera I hid behind a plant. What worked for me was sending a certified letter stating he violated the implied covenant of quiet enjoyment, not just the 24 hour rule. I told him I was reporting it to the local housing authority and the police for trespassing since he entered without consent. He backed off real quick and even let me break the lease without penalty. The key is documenting EVERYTHING and making them know you have proof.
