I finally gave up on the grapefruit diet after my doctor said something that clicked
I was eating half a grapefruit before every meal for three weeks straight, thinking it would boost my metabolism. At my checkup, my doctor looked at my food log and said, 'You're just adding 50 calories of fruit to an already full plate.' I realized I was eating the same big portions but with extra fruit, so I wasn't actually cutting anything. Now I'm back to square one and feeling pretty frustrated. What's a diet that actually helped you see real portion control in action?

It's like adding a diet soda to a fast food meal, doesn't really change much.

Oh man, that hits home! I do that exact thing all the time, like ordering a giant burger with a side salad instead of fries. It just lets me feel a tiny bit better about the whole mess while I'm eating it. The logic is totally flawed but I cling to it anyway. It's the little lie we tell ourselves to make a bad choice feel slightly less bad.

Wait you were eating a whole extra half grapefruit BEFORE each meal? That's wild, I can't even imagine being that full. My stomach would just give up. It makes total sense your doctor called it out, you were basically just eating more food.
