The moment I realized I was eating too little all along

I was on this 1,200 calorie diet for 6 months and losing nothing. I mean zero change on the scale. I thought I was being so strict but my body just held onto everything. Then a friend who is a nurse asked me what I ate in a day and she just shook her head. She told me my metabolism probably tanked from the low calories and I needed to eat more to actually lose weight. I slowly bumped up to 1,800 calories with more protein and the weight finally started coming off in week three. Has anyone else had the opposite problem where eating less just made things worse?

Wait, 1200 calories for SIX MONTHS with nothing happening? That's brutal. I would have lost my mind and given up way before that. The nurse just shaking her head at you is such a vivid image though, like she knew exactly what was up before you even finished explaining. I had a similar thing happen but it was with my own doctor who told me straight up "your body thinks it's starving so it's hoarding everything like a doomsday prepper." 1800 calories being the magic number is wild, like you have to eat MORE to lose weight, total backwards logic but it makes sense when you think about it.

Man, that whole "less is more" thing is a straight up trap, isn't it?
