That 'use a potato to remove a broken light bulb' trick cost me $150

Saw a video saying to cut a potato in half, jam it onto the broken glass, and twist it out. Tried it Tuesday night in my kitchen, and the potato just mashed into the socket while the glass shard stayed put. Had to call an electrician from Springfield to safely remove it and replace the whole fixture. Anyone got a REAL method for this that doesn't involve produce?

Did you check if the socket was one of those old, brittle ceramic ones? Those things crumble if you look at them wrong, and a potato has way too much force. A raw potato is basically a blunt tool.

Potatoes are for eating, not home repair. Did you at least turn the breaker off before trying that? Next time grab a pair of needle nose pliers with insulated handles, shut off the power, and gently twist the metal base out.
