Tried the 'freeze your credit card in a block of ice' trick to stop spending
Saw this online, thought it was smart. Put my card in a tub of water and froze it overnight. The next day, I saw a sale for something I really wanted. I spent 45 minutes trying to get the card out, using hot water, a butter knife, everything. The card got wet and the magnetic strip stopped working. So I had to wait for a new one anyway. Has anyone else had a 'smart' money trick totally backfire?

Was it really that big of a sale?

Big numbers can be misleading depending on what you're comparing them to. Maybe they were huge compared to last quarter's slump, but that doesn't mean the sale itself was some massive event. I've seen companies hype up a 20% increase when really it's just a bump from a bad month. Unless they're saying it broke records or something, I'd take it with a grain of salt.
