Tried the 'use a binder clip as a phone stand' hack for video calls

I saw it online and grabbed a big clip from my desk. It held my phone up at a weird angle, and the metal part scratched the back of my case. After two calls, it just fell over and my phone hit the table. I went and bought a real stand for 12 bucks the next day and it's solid. Anyone have a better cheap fix that actually works?

Saw a tech blog once that said those binder clip hacks are a total gamble. They said the spring tension can actually mess with your phone's internals over time, not just scratch it. My old roommate used a thick rubber band wrapped around a stack of coasters and it was weirdly stable. Honestly, just spending a few bucks on a real stand is the move, those DIY fixes always have a catch.

That rubber band and coasters thing is actually kind of brilliant, never would have thought of that. But the binder clip thing freaks me out now, I always wondered if that metal was bad for the phone. What tech blog was it? I wanna read that before my sister tries to make one for her new phone.
