Warning: the 'freeze your credit card in a block of ice' trick backfired on me in a big way

I tried it back in 2018 to stop impulse buys online, but then my car battery died in a Target parking lot and I needed a jump pack. I had to sit there for over an hour waiting for the ice to melt enough to chip the card out with my key. Has anyone actually made this work, or is it just a bad idea from the start?

My version involved a leftover Chinese takeout container. Took me forty five minutes with a butter knife and a hair dryer from the bathroom. Felt like a real genius that day.

Remember my own kitchen MacGyver moment trying to open a paint can with a flathead screwdriver and a rubber band. It's funny how those small wins, like your hair dryer trick vera_campbell, make you feel so clever. I swear half of adult life is just improvising with whatever junk is in the drawer. Those forty five minutes of struggle are always worth it for the story later.
