My anvil stand gave out mid-shoe yesterday

It was a simple pine block stand I've had for about five years. I was setting a heel on a size 2 shoe when the whole thing just split down the middle. The anvil tipped and the shoe went flying. I had to stop the job and bolt it back together with some steel straps I had in my truck. It set me back almost an hour. Has anyone found a good, solid plan for a stand that won't do this?

Saw a video where someone filled a steel drum with concrete for a stand.

Oh man, that's the worst! Pine was just begging for a dramatic breakup after five years of getting pounded on. I had a buddy who tried a big oak stump and even that thing started checking after a while. Honestly, I just ended up welding up a frame out of heavy angle iron and filled it with sand. It's ugly as sin but that anvil isn't going anywhere, lol.

That sand trick sounds like it would work for a washing machine too.
