The $5 hoof knife sharpening trick that saved my tired hands
Been dealing with sore wrists for months after trimming. My knives were dull but I kept putting off sharpening. Finally broke down and bought a cheap diamond stone from a hardware store near my shop in Austin. Used it wet like one of the old timers told me at a clinic back in 2022. Took maybe 10 minutes to get a good edge back on my main knife. The difference was night and day. Less pressure needed, cleaner cuts through the hoof wall. Anyone else notice how much easier trimming gets with actually sharp tools?

Dull tools are just making things harder on yourself. Sharpening is the cheapest fix you'll ever find for tired hands.

Forgot to mention cheap stones are often the problem too.

Tbh I feel like I was out here wrestling horses with a butter knife for way too long before I finally got that cheap stone. My wrists were so mad at me they'd creak every time I picked up a coffee cup. Now I can actually feel the difference in just a few passes instead of having to fight the tool the whole way. Sharpening is like the bare minimum we owe ourselves, especially when our hands are already screaming from the day job.
