Then I saw a designer in Portland turn a single pair into a structured corset top, and the construction was actually really clever. Has anyone else tried a serious upcycle project that changed their mind?

My one attempt at upcycling turned a shirt into a lopsided pillow my dog won't even sleep on.

Honestly that sounds like a win though. My first sewing project was a wonky tote bag that barely holds groceries. The point is you tried something new and learned a bit. Maybe the dog is just picky about pillows.
