My big sale last Friday fell apart when the payment system crashed

I was running a 24 hour flash sale for my online shop, everything was set up and ready to go. The clock hit the start time, I posted the link, and within 10 minutes my payment processor just died. I'm talking total crash, no one could check out. I spent the next frantic hour on the phone with their support while people in the comments were getting really mad. The guy on the line kept saying 'we're working on it' but it was down for almost three hours. I had to extend the sale window by a full day just to make it fair, which messed up my shipping schedule. Has anyone else had a payment service fail them right in the middle of a time-sensitive promotion? What's a good backup plan?

Wait THREE HOURS? For a flash sale that's basically an eternity. I would've lost my mind after 45 minutes, your patience is honestly impressive. The fact that people were getting angry in the comments while you're stuck on hold is just adding insult to injury. I swear payment processors always seem to pick the worst possible moments to implode. Backups are tricky because you can't exactly run two processors at once, but maybe having a manual order form ready to go as a plan B could save you next time.

Ugh, classic tech support "we're working on it" vibes.

What if they actually are working on it but can't say more because the fix is super messy? I've seen cases where the real problem is way bigger than what they first told users. They might be stuck between giving a bad fix fast or a good one that takes ages. That "we're working on it" could be hiding a total nightmare behind the scenes.
