Update: Saw three houses in my area close in under 10 days, but the buyers all missed the same thing.

Honestly, I was checking the county records and each sale had a huge sewer line assessment fee that wasn't in the initial offer. Tbh, the sellers' agents were pushing the speed but not making the buyers check the city's public works site. Has anyone else gotten burned by not looking up local utility liens before rushing an offer?

Notice how this stuff happens everywhere now, like hidden fees on concert tickets. People rush you to decide before you can check the fine print. It's the new normal for any big purchase.

My buddy bought a place last year and got hit with a surprise $5k water main bill two weeks after closing. He said the listing agent just kept talking about the new roof.

Always thought inspections caught everything, but that's a nasty surprise.
