Why does nobody talk about setting posts in CLAY soil?
I'm putting up a wood fence around my property, and the ground is PURE CLAY. Every time I dig a hole, it fills with water and won't drain. I've tried using gravel, but the posts still get wobbly. How do you guys make them STAY PUT in this kind of soil?

My neighbor's clay soil fence posts all leaned after one winter, just like mark_rivera said. I ended up using concrete and a ton of drainage rock in each hole to finally get them solid.

Pure clay" is why my last fence looked drunk.

How deep did you guys dig those post holes? In pure clay, you gotta go way past the frost line or it's just gonna heave every single time.
