My kombucha scoby hit 4 inches thick and I panicked
I left a batch brewing in my Phoenix apartment for almost 8 weeks by accident while I was traveling. Came back to this massive, gelatinous monster that looked like a weird science experiment. Had to carefully cut it down with a sterilized knife to save the brew. Has anyone else ever grown a scoby this big, and what did you do with it?

Actually, cutting it might not have been needed. A thick scoby is normal for long brews. You can just peel the layers apart by hand. The extra layers are great for starting new batches or sharing with friends. The knife could bring in germs, even if you cleaned it.

Yeah I read that too somewhere... peeling is the way to go. A clean knife is probably fine but why risk it, you know?
