Showerthought: My cloth lid works just as well as fancy locks
I got into fermenting with a simple cloth tied over my jar. People always talk up airlocks, but my pickles come out crispy every time. Why spend cash on special tops?

Remember that time I tried the loose lid trick for kombucha? Let's just say my ceiling got a new, lively paint job after a week. Sometimes the simple way works until it really, really doesn't.

Loose lids are fine, but you still need that cloth cover like james746 said.
