I keep seeing people mix up their emergency fund with a savings goal

They'll say they have $5,000 saved, but it's for a vacation next year, not for a real emergency like a car repair. That means they actually have zero dollars set aside for a real crisis. How do you guys keep these two pots of money separate in your head?

Wait, they call vacation money an emergency fund?

Look, price.tara, it's all just money sitting in an account. If you save up a big pile of cash for emergencies, what's wrong with using some of it for a trip if nothing bad happens? Calling it different things just makes saving feel harder. A fund is a fund, and sometimes a mental health break from work is the real emergency. Strict labels just stress people out for no good reason.

Right? It's a total mix-up. An emergency fund is for real problems. Like your car breaking down or losing your job. Vacation money is for fun stuff you plan for. Calling it the same thing just messes up your whole budget.
