I saw a local credit union in Portland offering a 4.5% APY on a checking account with no minimum.

It made me realize I've been leaving serious money on the table by keeping my emergency fund in a big bank's 0.01% savings account, so has anyone else found a surprisingly good local rate lately?

My credit union in Seattle just bumped their high-yield savings to 4.8%. I moved my whole emergency fund over last month and it's already earning more in a week than my old account did all year. It's a total game changer for just letting that money sit.

Seriously though, is a few extra bucks a month really life changing? It's still just a savings account, not some magic money tree. Feels like people are getting a bit too excited over basic interest.
