Vent: My writing friends say to post drafts quick, but I found waiting helps

In my group, people always want to see rough drafts as soon as possible. I tried that before and got confused notes. This time, I sat with my story for a few weeks before asking for thoughts. The comments were way more useful and pointed to real issues. Maybe not rushing can make feedback better for some folks.

My friend Jen had this exact thing happen last year. She used to send out first drafts the same day she finished them. People would come back confused, asking why a character did something weird or pointing out stuff that wasn't even a problem. For her last project, she waited a whole month before letting anyone see it. The notes she got were night and day. Someone caught a major plot hole about a missing car key, and another friend gently said a whole side character could be cut. Letting it breathe meant she could see the real weak spots herself first.

Jen's month wait is smart, though I've found even a week away from a draft helps... lets you come back with fresh eyes to spot the weird stuff yourself first.

A whole month to find your own missing car key plot hole. I picture Jen just wandering around her own manuscript for weeks, checking under paragraphs and behind dialogue tags.
