PSA: I just found out how much a bad glue job can shrink a floor over time

I was reading an old trade journal from the 90s at the library yesterday. It had a case study about a glue-down vinyl job from 1985 that failed. They measured the sheets after 15 years and found the whole floor had shrunk by almost a full inch across a 20-foot span because the adhesive wasn't spread right. I always knew moisture was a big deal, but I never thought a glue line could cause that much movement over decades. Has anyone else run into a really old install that shrank like that?

That was probably moisture, not the glue line.

Still looks like crap either way.

Moisture or glue, the end result is the same. People get way too worked up about tiny cosmetic flaws. It's a piece of wood, not a museum painting.
