Rant: I spent $60 on a fancy truffle oil that tastes like chemicals

I bought a small bottle of white truffle oil from a high end shop for a special dinner last month. It smelled strong but tasted like fake perfume and ruined a whole batch of risotto. Has anyone found a brand that actually tastes like real truffles?

Tell me what they said exactly. I need to know if their warning matches what I've heard. This stuff gets weirdly specific by region.

Oh man, that's the worst. You basically paid sixty bucks to make your risotto taste like a chemistry set. @masonbell is right to ask for the warning details, because a lot of that stuff is just perfume oil with zero real truffle in it. I had a similar bottle that made my pasta taste like a weird floor cleaner. Now I just use a tiny bit of the real mushroom if I can find it, or skip it entirely. That fake oil smell sticks to everything.
