A ripped jacket led me back to needle and thread

I found a tear in my favorite denim jacket last weekend. I recalled my grandpa always mending his own work clothes with careful stitches. So, I got out a basic sewing kit and practiced on some scrap fabric first. Now the jacket has a sturdy patch that tells a story, and I feel more connected to that hands-on past.

Honestly, all that sewing seems like too much effort for a worn-out jacket. Just toss it and buy a new one that looks fresh.

I mean, I totally get your point about all that sewing being too much effort. After a long week, just tossing something and getting a new jacket sounds way easier. Idk, I've felt that way too when my clothes wear out. But sometimes if it's a piece I really love, I'll try to fix it just to keep it around a bit longer. It's a personal choice, I guess.

Seriously, I thought so too until I fixed my favorite one.
