Slag sorting clicked for me after a plant visit

We always threw all our slag into one big pile. Last month, I visited another foundry and noticed they sorted it by metal type. My team started doing the same thing. Now the scrap yard gives us better money for the separated loads.

Seriously, I thought sorting was just extra busywork before. Seeing the actual price difference for separated loads changed my mind completely. It's one of those things you have to see to believe.

So you actually tracked the cost difference? I mean, did you weigh the sorted loads or just go by the trash bill? Sometimes the savings are in reduced pickup fees or lower bag costs. What was the biggest surprise in the numbers for you?
