Update: My pottery class is saving my freelance sanity
I signed up for a local pottery workshop to get away from my computer screen. Working with clay forces me to focus on my hands, not my inbox, and it really helps me relax. Coming back to client projects after a session, I feel more patient and creative. Do other freelancers use hobbies to handle work stress?

Oh my god, yes. My buddy Mark, who codes all day, started doing woodworking. He spent a whole weekend just sanding one table leg until it was smooth. He said his brain finally shut up about bug reports. Now he keeps a small project in his garage for when work gets crazy. Says it resets his patience for dealing with client feedback.

How many of you find that your brain just won't shut off until your hands are busy with something real? That woodworking story is exactly it, lol. There's something about a physical task that your mind can't multitask on, so all the work noise just gets pushed out. I started messing around with fixing up an old motorcycle for the same reason. It forces a different kind of focus that makes going back to a screen feel less awful.

It's the only thing that works sometimes. Hands have to be busy to get the brain to chill out.
