Serious question, ever had a customer's homemade treat ruin your work?
Was finishing a shower door install when the homeowner insisted I try her famous chili. One spill later, and I'm cleaning beans off tempered glass for an hour. The acid in the tomatoes actually etched the surface a bit. Learned to always say no to eats on the job now.

Come on, that seems way too strict! Turning down every single offer just because of one bad time is overkill. You're missing out on some seriously good food and hurting people's feelings for no reason. Most folks just want to be nice, and it's part of building a good relationship with them. Just be more careful where you eat it, maybe step away from your work area. A simple "thanks, I'll save it for my break" fixes everything without being rude.

My neighbor once brought me a giant glass of sweet tea while I was repainting her porch railing. Of course it slipped right out of my wet, paint-speckled hand. The sugary mess went everywhere, and cleaning that sticky residue off fresh white paint was a whole new kind of nightmare. It wasn't the same as etching glass, but it sure taught me a lesson about accepting drinks while your hands are full. Some kindnesses are better saved for after the tools are put away.

I once tried a customer's lemonade (against my better judgment) and spilled it all over my dashboard. Now I stick to water in the truck, which is boring but safe.
