Stop buying beginner drum kits, it's a trap

I spent $550 on a full starter drum set back in March and the cymbals sounded like garbage cans from day one, so before you drop cash on that cheap kit, go test a used mid-range one at a local shop and see if anyone else here made the same mistake.

...and that's exactly how my $400 "bargain" kit ended up with me playing on the box it came in just to feel something. The cymbals were so thin they'd wobble if you looked at them wrong, and the snare sounded like a box of angry bees. I swear the kick pedal had a mind of its own, it would just randomly decide to not come back up mid-beat. So yeah, I get it, cheap kits are a financial hazing ritual for people who just want to make noise. Definitely wish I'd just borrowed a friend's used kit and saved my cash for something that didn't sound like a trash truck backing up.
