I always tossed spare cash aside, but now it's my first investment fund.

My friend Carla from Phoenix saved loose cash for ten years. She finally put it all into a basic growth fund last spring. @taralane's point about extra setup versus real control makes sense here. Carla almost got stuck comparing every tiny investment option. Keeping it simple was what finally made her pull the trigger.

Funny, I've always done the opposite. Isn't that just a savings account with extra steps? Why not just keep saving it for now?

Yeah, it's part of that whole trend where we overcomplicate simple tasks. Like using a special app to split bills when you could just do the math. Or setting up automatic transfers to five different accounts instead of one savings pot. Does all that extra setup really help, or does it just make us feel more in control? Sometimes I wonder if we're just avoiding the hard part, which is actually saving the money.
