Rant: My beach vacation stock pick flopped hard
I was on a trip to Florida and bought shares in a local sunscreen company after a chat with a surfer. Put my souvenir money into it, sure it would boom in the summer heat. The stock tanked when a cloudier season hit, and I lost cash meant for dolphin tours. Now I tell new investors to skip wild guesses and look at steady funds instead.

Still looks like a good company to me.

Sometimes the culture inside a company is the real risk. The numbers can look fine while the team is falling apart. That's what gets missed until it's too late.

A study from Stanford in 2022 found that 7 out of 10 failed startups had bad culture problems. It proves what you're saying about numbers hiding the real trouble. Why do bosses always focus on profit when the team is breaking down? I heard about a tech company where everyone quit after a year because of how they were treated. The books looked great until they had no one left to do the work. Culture kills companies faster than bad sales, but no one seems to get it until it's too late.
