Question about why drywall repair skills are vanishing

I keep seeing friends with small holes in their walls from pictures or door handles, and they just leave them. It's weird because patching drywall is so easy and cheap. Last month, my kid put a hole in the hallway with a toy, and I fixed it in under an hour. You just need some joint compound, a putty knife, and sandpaper. Sand it smooth, paint over it, and it's like new. But people act like it's a big deal or call a pro for tiny fixes. Learning this saves money and keeps your place looking good. Seriously, use a Saturday to figure it out.

Wait, under an hour? Doesn't the mud need to dry?

Two thin coats of that fast set stuff is what did it. Anthony, I saw that under an hour claim and laughed out loud at my phone. Regular joint compound needs a full day between coats in my damp garage. I tried that green lid setting-type mud once and it was still soft after three hours. The idea of mud being ready for sanding that fast just does not match any reality I have lived in.

That green lid mud Matthew talked about, I had a similar thing happen last winter. My basement was so damp it took all day for a skim coat to set. What kind of climate are you working in, Anthony? Humidity seems to mess with these quick dry claims more than anything. Have you ever timed it from mix to sand with a dehumidifier running?
