The Knitted Sweater That Derailed My Minimalist Dreams
Everyone in my apartment building is obsessed with minimalism, so I decided to purge my clutter last weekend. I was doing great until I pulled out this horrendous, handmade sweater from my late grandmother. Throwing it away feels morally wrong, but keeping it goes against everything I'm trying to achieve. I'm now stuck in this absurd loop of guilt every time I look at my 'donate' pile. Is honoring sentiment sometimes more important than embracing a trend?

Reminds me of my friend who held onto her mom's ceramic vase even though it clashed with her minimalist decor. She finally admitted it wasn't about the object itself, but the Sunday phone calls it represented. Trends come and go, but that kind of connection is pretty permanent.

But what if the Sunday calls stop or the vase breaks? Sentimental value is cool until life moves on, ya know? I've seen folks cling to stuff for years only to realize it was just habit, not some deep bond. Plus, minimalist decor isn't just a trend; it's about mental space, which might matter more in the long run.

My clutter is basically a museum of my worst life choices, but at least there's a story behind each dust bunny. Minimalism sounds great until you're staring at a chipped mug from a road trip you can't part with.
