I was sketching a portrait at a cafe in Portland when this older guy leaned over and said 'your eyes are looking at each other, not at me', and I froze because I'd been placing the iris dead center in every single face since I started drawing in 2019. Turns out the iris should sit slightly lower and closer to the nose line, and once I looked at my old sketches I saw every one of them had that same flat, glassy stare. Has anyone else had a moment where one stranger's comment completely rewired how you see a basic shape, or am I just the slowest learner in this sub?
