PSA: My labrador's impeccable sit-stay failed spectacularly at a neighborhood cookout

I was so proud of my lab, Baxter, for mastering sit-stay in our quiet living room. Then at the block party, I gave the command and he bolted straight for the burger table. Everyone cracked up, but now I'm questioning my training method. Any tips for proofing commands around major distractions? Maybe I rushed the socialization phase.

Could it be that your training's fine, but burgers are simply irresistible to any lab?

Absolutely, burgers have some kind of mystical hold on labs. I've seen mine ignore steak for a cheap fast-food patty. It's not just the taste, it's the grease and aroma that drives them wild. All those training sessions go out the window when someone unwraps a burger nearby.

Seriously, everyone's dog would ditch a command for a burger. Maybe @flores.leo has a point and you're just overthinking a funny moment? Does every single behavior need to be bombproof?
