Stopped yelling at my dog for jumping up, now he greets guests calmly.

I always thought scolding my dog for jumping was the way to go, but it just hyped him up more. Switched to turning my back and only praising when he kept all four paws down. After a few days of doing this every time, he started sitting for attention instead. Lmao, sometimes the best fix is doing nothing at all.

Curious how you landed on ignoring him. Did you read up on dog training or just get fed up and try something different?

My friend started ignoring his dog after reading a training site, but really he was just fed up. @aaronj43, it ended up being a mix of both for him.

Wait, isn't the "doing nothing" part actually the hardest work? @aaronj43, that active ignoring is a trained skill, not just giving up. It looks passive but you're really teaching him what doesn't get your attention.
