Watching my niece rely on a sleep app made me reminisce about my dad's old radio static trick lol

Honestly, hearing about a sleep app compared to radio static is just shocking to me. Tbh, that old trick was foolproof and didn't cost a dime. Ngl, I spent countless nights drifting off to that static, and it never failed. It's almost unbelievable that we've moved from something so simple to needing an app for everything. The idea of relying on a phone to sleep when a radio could do the job feels backwards. Makes me question what we're really gaining with all these digital crutches.

It's funny you mention that, because a friend of mine had a similar realization after relying on a sleep app for years. He actually lost power during a storm, and with his phone dead, he rummaged through his basement for an old transistor radio. The static from that thing, he said, lulled him to sleep in minutes, something the app with its gentle melodies never achieved. He realized he'd been chasing a high tech solution for a problem that had a perfectly analog answer all along. It struck me as a perfect example of how we layer complexity onto simple, effective habits. Now he keeps that radio on his dresser as a reminder, and I doubt he'll ever go back.

Lost power and dug up a transistor radio? That's some back-to-basics luck right there. Hard to believe static trumps all those fancy sleep sounds.

Yeah, @elliotramirez calling that static foolproof really hits home... I spent a small fortune on a fancy white noise machine with like twelve nature sounds, only to find myself just wanting that cheap, fuzzy hiss. My high-tech solution now mostly just collects dust next to my bed, which is a pretty good joke on me.
